Ubisoft not ready to abandon Xbox 360, PS3 just yet

Assassin's Creed and Far Cry publisher Ubisoft is not ready to abandon the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 generation just yet. During a post-earnings financial call today, CEO Yves Guillemot said, "We have made it clear that as a company we expect to continue supporting those consoles for the foreseeable future."

Also during the call, Guillemot teased that a version of upcoming stealth-action game Assassin's Creed Unity, announced only for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC, could be released on the Xbox 360 and PS3. Discussing the upcoming game, Guillemot said, "[Assassin's Creed Unity] will be released this fall on Xbox One, PS4, and PC. We have not disclosed our plan yet for the Xbox 360 and PS3 SKUs."

A past report suggested that Assassin's Creed Comet is the name of the game coming to Xbox 360 and PS3 this year, though this is unconfirmed. That game will reportedly let you play as a Templar.

It's not much of a surprise that Ubisoft remains committed to the Xbox 360 and PS3 generation, especially for a tentpole franchise like Assassin's Creed. After all, the Xbox 360 and PS3 together total some 160 million units sold to date--80 million for the PS3 and 80 million for the Xbox 360. That's a much larger market than the Xbox One and PS4 generation, which currently only makes up around 10 million, though Guillemot expects this to grow substantially by next year.
