Reality Check - Why Do We Love Video Game Music?

Although, I agree with most of the article, I actually don't listen for the nostalgia.  I actually just love the music, even in all it's simplicity when I enjoy an old NES track.  Actually, some of those older games were technical beasts in terms of composition.  On the NES they only had 5 audio tracks to use, and usually 1 or 2 of them were dedicated to sound effects.  So, the songs would only have 2-4 parts in them.  Gosh, look at Pharaoh Man from Mega Man 2, and listen to the bass line.  That shit is INSANE and I love it.  I actually get bored by modern video game music because it sounds too much like modern movie music...it doesn't really spur any emotion in me and it doesn't attract my musician side...I think back to Crysis 2.  The title screen melody was like, 2 notes.  Plus i twas by Hans Zimmer, who needs to retire from music, in my opinion.  He's terrible.   I was very impressed by the boss music in Dark Souls, because they sounded like actual compositions instead of just "mood music."  Final Fantasy 6 and Secret of Mana are the kings of music, in my opinion.  So many great tracks from those two games.  Okay, end rant.  :D
